Grading Procedure for Concert Choir
Students participating in choir will be graded in the following manner. There will be two areas of assessment. I will be using formative assessment and summative assessment.
Formative assessment is assessing the skills leading up to the test or the performance. (Singing during class, scales, warm-ups, breathing exercises, singing short passages, class participation, sight-singing, etc.)
Summative assessment is the final assessment at the end.
(Concerts, contests, music festivals, all performances, etc.)
Formative assessment will be assessed using the following:
4=Excellent 3=Good 2=Fair 1=Poor
Summative assessment will be assessed using the regular numerical grading system:
A=100-90 B=89-80 C=79-70 D=69-60 F=59-0
At the end of each nine week grading period, your child will receive a grade for choir class. This grade is calculated in with the other grades and is a part of the overall grade point average. Please take the time to explain that to your child. This grade in choir can definitely make a difference at the end of each grading period.
