Grading Procedure for Advanced Band
Students participating in band will be graded in the following manner. There will be two areas of assessment. I will be using formative assessment and summative assessment.
Formative assessment is assessing the skills leading up to the test or the performance. (Playing instruments during class, weekly practice sheets, scales, warm-ups, breathing exercises, playing short passages, class participation, sight-reading, etc.)
Summative assessment is the final assessment at the end.
(Concerts, contests, music festivals, all performances, etc.)
Formative assessment will be assessed using the following:
4=Excellent 3=Good 2=Fair 1=Poor
Summative assessment will be assessed using the regular numerical grading system:
A=100-90 B=89-80 C=79-70 D=69-60 F=59-0
At the end of each nine week grading period, your child will receive a grade for band class. This grade is calculated in with the other grades and is a part of the overall grade point average. Please take the time to explain that to your child. This grade in band can definitely make a difference at the end of each grading period.
