About Me
I was born and raised right here in Huntsville, AL. I attended Anna Knight Elementary School in 1st grade and then became a product of Huntsville City Schools. In 1973 as a 2nd grader, I integrated Monte Sano Elementary School being the first African-American student in the school's history. After going to Monte Sano Elementary through the 6th grade, I went on to Huntsville Middle School for grades 7 and 8 and then Huntsville High School for grades 9 through 12.
After graduating from Huntsville High School in 1985, I matriculated through the historic walls of Alabama A&M University majoring in Music Education. During my college years, I did a lot of "gigging" and performing in and out of town with various jazz groups and other musical ensembles. Because of this experience, I have been able to form life long relationships with some of the world's best musicians.
In 1991 I graduated from Alabama A&M University and landed my first job as a music educator at Brookhaven Middle School in Decatur, AL. I taught at Brookhaven from 1992 until 1995. I left Brookhaven in 1995 and I started back "gigging" and performing making a living as a "professional musician" as I had done during my college years, thinking that that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After a while, the traveling and performing got old and my passion for teaching students began to increase. During the 1996-97 school year, a Huntsville City School door opened and enabled me to become a permanent substitute teacher at Westlawn Middle School.
Friday before the start of the 1997-98 school year, I received a call from Mrs. Ollye Conely, the principal and founder of the Academy for Science & Foreign Language (ASFL). Over the phone Mrs. Conely says, "Hello Mr. Snodgrass this is Ollye Conley. I understand that you're not teaching in Decatur anymore and I need a music teacher. I'll see you Monday morning"! I taught at ASFL for 22 wonderful years and starting a concert band program in 2004.
During the summer of 2019, I closed the ASFL chapter to begin a new chapter at the Academy for Academics & Arts (AAA).
In 1998 I married the love of my life, Lisa...(who teaches 4th grade at AAA ) and we have 2 awesome dancing daughters Kennady (16) and Kendall (13).
I am currently completing a Master's degree in Educational Leadership (Educational Administration) in hopes of becoming an assistant principal or principal in the near future. My long term goal is to become a district or state superintendent of education...possibly...
